Safety Guidelines
Your safety is our top priority. Follow these guidelines to make every swap a positive, secure experience.
Meeting in Person
- Always meet in a public place — a cafe, library, shopping centre, or other busy location.
- Let a friend or family member know where you’re going and when to expect you back.
- Bring a friend if you can, especially for high-value exchanges.
- Meet during daylight hours when possible.
- Trust your instincts — if something feels wrong, cancel the swap.
Protecting Your Privacy
- Never share your home address in your listing or messages before you’ve verified the other person.
- Use SwapLocal’s messaging system for all initial communication.
- Be cautious about sharing personal contact details too early.
Evaluating Listings
- Check the seller’s reputation score and reviews before proposing a swap.
- Verified users (marked with a checkmark) have confirmed their identity.
- Ask questions and request additional photos if the listing is unclear.
- Report suspicious listings immediately using the Report button.
During the Swap
- Inspect items or verify services before finalising the exchange.
- If anything is misrepresented, you can open a dispute through SwapLocal.
- Leave an honest review after every swap to help the community.
